In July 2024, FIDE announced that the match would take take place in Singapore from 20 November to 15 December 2024, with four venues being considered. Ultimately, the Singapore Chess Federation revealed that the Equarius Hotel at Resorts World Sentosa was chosen as the venue to host the world championship match.

 The first game of the Gukesh vs Ding Liren World Championship battle is underway with the Chinese world champion trying to catch his young challenger off guard with a French Defence early on. But Ding spent over 25 minutes in on his seventh move, to fall nearly half an hour behind the Indian prodigy.

Gukesh started the first game with white pieces against Ding Liren. After 22 moves, the evaluation bar shows that Ding Liren has the upper hand, a remarkable turnaround from a point where he was down almost 50 minutes.

There is history on the line as the 18-year-old Gukesh, takes on Ding Liren in a 14-game battle royale called the World Chess Championship. It’s a match that has been billed as the battle between the ‘Indian tiger and the Chinese dragon’ by FIDE president Arkady Dvorkovich.

How has Ding Liren managed to turn this around? He looked in deep trouble 

At some point Ding Liren was almost 50 minutes down on the clock comapred to Gukesh. But the eval nbar now shows that Ding Liren has an advantage. On the 21st move, Ding boldly offered his queen to Gukesh for an exchange. By this stage Ding already had a slight advantage on the board. But Gukesh, instead of accepting the queen exchange, retreated his queen to e1. But engine does not like that move one bit. 

Ding’s pieces are bearing down on Gukesh’s king and queen.
